Claims/Litigation Support

CDCI Research is committed to resolving legal disputes in the most efficient and expedient way possible.

We have worked on hundreds of claims throughout Canada including providing litigation support all the way through trial for two complex Aboriginal rights and title cases in addition to supporting a number of settlement processes.

CDCI Research’s subject matter expertise includes:

  • Fishing and fisheries resource use
  • Rights and Title
  • Residential Schools
  • Treaty claims and provisions
  • Historic land transactions and Additions to Reserves
  • Railway and Road right of way
  • Transport, bridges and canal
  • Health
  • Expropriation
  • Environmental assessment
  • Real Property
  • Oil and gas
  • Land occupation and territorial overlap
  • Forestry resource use
  • Federal policy documents collected related to education

From CDCI Research’s corporate experience in these subject matters, our project teams have conducted historic research and compiled document collections that speak to all issues within a claim.

Our document management and database teams electronically organize documents and catalogue all documents to be used within the litigation and settlement process. These collections are then used by our researchers to develop reports, narratives, chronologies and other written products on the key issues in a claim.

Our research teams support our government clients all the way through the litigation process. After our professional researchers have an opportunity to review and analyze the documents related to a particular claim, our project teams use their expertise in diverse claim matters in addition to their intimate knowledge of governmental records to assist our government clients in making decisions about whether to pursue a claim.

CDCI research has assisted our clients with the following litigation processes to clarify the particulars of a claim:

  • Document production
  • Discovery
  • Undertaking
  • Interrogatories
  • Settlement negotiations
  • Preparation for Case Management Conferences
  • Trial preparation
  • Expert report review
  • Expert report development

CDCI Research also provides support to resolve disputes through alternate dispute mechanisms and other government processes that had been put in place to expedite the resolution of conflicts between the government and third parties.

Our settlement and commission of inquiry experience ranges from providing support for a settlement mandate to managing the research and document management associated with public inquiries.

Most recently, CDCI research has managed the research and electronic production of the Cohen Inquiry into the Decline of the Sockeye Salmon.
